What is design-build?

The traditional model of design-bid-build is a common method used in construction projects, where the design is completed before the project is put out to bid and awarded to a contractor. This method can be time-consuming and involve several different parties, including the owner, architect, and contractor.

On the other hand, the design-build model involves a single entity taking responsibility for both the design and construction of a project. This can streamline the process and eliminate the need for a separate bidding process.

There are several benefits to using a design-builder for your construction project:

Cost savings: By eliminating the bidding process, the design-build model can often result in cost savings for the owner. This is because the design-builder has an incentive to come up with the most cost-effective design and construction solutions.

Time savings: The design-build model can also result in time savings, as the design and construction phases are completed by the same entity. This can help to avoid delays and keep the project on schedule.

Improved communication: With the design-build model, the owner has a single point of contact for both the design and construction phases. This can improve communication and help to resolve issues more quickly.

Greater flexibility: The design-build model allows for greater flexibility in the design process. The design-builder can work with the owner to make changes and adaptations as the project progresses.

Overall, the design-build model can provide a more efficient and cost-effective approach to construction projects. It allows for greater collaboration and communication between the owner and the design-builder, resulting in a successful project that meets the needs and goals of the owner.
